જમ્મુ અને કાશ્મીર બાદ ભારતનું અન્ય એક રાજ્ય છે જે પોતાનો સ્વતંત્ર ઝંડો ઈચ્છે છે. જો સરકારની આ યોજના સફળ નીવડશે તો પછી કર્ણાટક દેશનું બીજુ એવું રાજ્ય બનશે જેનો પોતાનો અલગ ઝંડો હશે. કર્ણાટકની કોંગ્રેસ સરકાર પોતાના રાજ્યની એક અલગ ઓળખ માટે રાજ્યનો અલગ ઝંડો ઈચ્છે છે. ઝંડાની ડિઝાઈન માટે સરકારે 9 સભ્યોની એક ટીમ પણ બનાવી છે. આ વર્ષે થનારી વિધાનસભાની ચૂંટણીને ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને સરકારનું આ પગલું ખુબ મહત્વપૂર્ણ ગણવામાં આવી રહ્યું છે.

એક બાજુ કેન્દ્રની મોદી સરકાર એક રાષ્ટ્ર એક નિશાનના નારા લગાવે છે ત્યાં બીજી બાજુ કર્ણાટક દ્વારા અલગ ઝંડાની માગણી એ મોટા વિવાદને જન્મ આપી શકે છે. વર્ષ 2012માં પણ આ પ્રકારની માગણી ઊઠી હતી પરંતુ તત્કાલિન ભાજપ સરકારે એમ કહીને તેનો વિરોધ કર્યો હતો કે આ પગલું દેશની એક્તા અને અખંડિતતાની વિરુદ્ધમાં છે.

અત્રે જણાવવાનું કે ગત દિવસોમાં બેંગ્લુરુ મેટ્રોમાં કન્નડ અને અંગ્રેજી સાથે હિન્દીમાં લખેલા નામ જોઈને કેટલાક લોકોએ રાજ્ય પર હિન્દી થોપવાનો આરોપ લગાવ્યો હતો. ત્યારબાદ કોંગ્રેસ સરકારનું આ પગલું તેનો આગામી પડાવ ગણવામાં આવી રહ્યો છે. કર્ણાટકના પૂર્વ સીએમ અને કેન્દ્રીય મંત્રી ડીવી સદાનંદ ગૌડાએ આ ફેસલાને સંપૂર્ણ રીતે નકારી નાખ્યો છે. ગૌડાએ કહ્યું કે ભારત એક દેશ છે અને દેશમાં બે ઝંડા હોઈ શકે નહીં. સરકારના 6 જૂનના આદેશમાં કન્નડ અને કલ્ચર ડિપાર્ટમેન્ટના પ્રમુખ સચિવને કમિટીના અધ્યક્ષ બનાવાયા છે.
